Cashmere Care

It will come as no surprise to you that we LOVE cashmere!

A precious fabric like cashmere deserves a bit of extra care. At Chelsea Cashmere all items are designed to be timeless fashion pieces and made to last from premium quality fibres.

Here are our expert tips on how to look after your cashmere. Firstly, cashmere loves water – so don’t be afraid to wash your cashmere items frequently. It makes them even softer and smoother.

Read the care label

This might be obvious, but please do read the care labels on our items. They tell you everything you need to know at a quick glance. If you choose to remove the care label, remember to keep it somewhere safe for future reference or take a photo.

Hand washing cashmere

We advise hand washing our cashmere items. Here is a quick guide to handwashing your cashmere:

Mix cool water and a small amount of special wool detergent or mild baby shampoo in a sink or bowl. Do not soak the cashmere, press repeatedly to remove any excess moisture. Rinse in fresh, cool water. Lay flat on a towel and press down to remove moisture. Then dry flat on a fresh towel.

Machine washing cashmere

If you opt for machine washing, please select the hand-wash setting to avoid shrinkage or damage to our high-quality materials.

Don’t forget to separate light items from dark and use a special wool detergent or a mild baby shampoo. Reduce the spin cycle to the lowest setting and lay out flat on a towel to dry. Never wash cashmere with other clothes, use a tumble dryer for cashmere or add any fabric softener.

Dry cleaning cashmere

All our items ae suitable for dry cleaning.

Drying cashmere

Cashmere items should always be dried flat to restore their original shape. This can take a few days but don’t get tempted to place them directly on or near a heat source or expose to direct sun. Do not use a tumble dryer.

Ironing cashmere

We recommend ironing any cashmere item inside out on a very low temperature. This will help smooth out your cashmere items.

Pilling

Cashmere is a natural fibre and therefore pilling occurs naturally. Regular washing helps to reduce pilling.

Use a cashmere comb to remove any pills or fuzz. Lay the item onto a flat surface and gently brush with the comb in the direction of the knit.

Stains

We recommend dry cleaning for any stained cashmere items. You can treat the stain immediately with some cold water and a special wool detergent, then follow the above washing instructions.

Storing cashmere and avoiding moths

As cashmere is a natural fibre, moths love it as they feed from it. Here are some tips on how to avoid moths ruining your cashmere.

Air your wardrobe regularly and add natural repellents like cedar wood balls or lavender bags. Only store items that have been washed and fully dried. Invest in some airtight storage bags or boxes to store items when not in frequent use or over the summer months.
